- Gallisticle
- A description of web sites that (cynically) post picture galleries that require repeated clicking in an attempt to boost page view figures – one measure of web traffic.
Maura Johnston appears to have coined gallisticle on the blogIdolator.com, defining it as “page view-inflating lists that are presented as galleries.” Kevin Roderick noted on L.A. Observed that, “Nothing beats the page view-inflating efficiency of slide shows about celebs.”
Yet the tactic is not new. In July 2007, The New York Times reported that Nielsen/NetRatings planned to “scrap rankings based on the longtime industry yardstick of page views and begin tracking how long visitors spend at the sites.”
